2012 Top 10 Albums of the Year: #1) Kendrick Lamar - “good kid, m.A.A.d city

There’s something to be said about a rap artist that work as well as Kendrick above the snare beat.  When I heard all the hype surround this album, I really looked forward to listening to it and dismissing it quickly.  Much to my surprise, “good kid, m.A.A.d city” turned out to be the best album of the year.

2012 Top 10 Albums of the Year: #2) Frank Ocean - “channel ORANGE

I don’t think I’m alone in saying that 2012 was an incredible year for R&B.  Frank Ocean’s channel ORANGE has been celebrated as the album of the year by a number of critics and its completely deserved.

Its pound for pound one of the finest produced records of the year and I think it’s a record we will look back on in eight years and list is as one of the finest efforts in the past decade.

2012 Top 10 Albums of the Year: #3) Diiv - “Oshin

Been struggling for some time to come up with something to describe Diiv’s(pronounced Dive) album “Oshin”.

The musical stylings (influences) are very evident if you give the record a spin…  As dream pop records go, “Oshin” is an incredible record to slip on when its cold outside.  It’s a very concentrated/rooted effort with unintelligible crooning that puts me in a familiar and tranquil place.

Perhaps it’s ranking is a little high for a Best Album of the Year listing, but in my opinion it’s a high water mark in a rather forgettable year for acts whom use a guitar for a catalyst.
