I'm trying to break your heart: A film about Wilco

I’ve had Wilco (the band) on my mind a lot these days…  perhaps it has a lot to do with the weather in San Antonio.  Decided watch the celebrated documentary “I’m trying to break your heart” for the first time since I saw a screening of it at the Royal Oak theater back in Detroit when it first came out.

For some reason the documentary seemed shorter the second time around…  the videotaped split between Tweedy and Bennet was pretty intense.

I didn’t know about Bennet passing away until this evening… not sure if the two ever patched things up.

I have had a few experiences of playing/creating music together with others and I can see how it can become a very stressful thing.  I recall it being very awkward to talk or communicate after jamming for a while.  It’s as if I had lost my ability to use words…  especially after listening and making gestures to others in the room when trying to create something out of thin air.

The creation of the record, it not getting released by Reprise (owned by Warner) and it eventually getting released by Nonesuch (also owned by Warner) was amusing to sit thru again.

Anyhoo… it’s arguably one of the finest albums from the first decade.

Waiting...

The only way to describe the movie Waiting…  I think you sorta have to tell someone that it’s a modernized version of CLERKS but it takes place at a restaurant/bar (Bennigan’s),  Shennanigan’s.

Just like the movie Clerks, the film centers around a full work day where Ryan Reynolds has been asked to train a new hire.

His co-workers are:  Justin Long, Anna Faris, Dane Cook (who isn’t particularly funny… just like in real life) and Luis Guzman.

Luis Guzman is hands down the funniest guy in the movie.  His biggest contribution is explaining to the new hire that there’s a Game at the workplace where the guys have to trick other guy employees into seeing their genitalia.

Highly recommend this one.

Aliens VS Cowboys

You’re probably asking yourself right now…  Why in the fuck would he watch a Cowboy movie the day after he complained about having to watch movies in that genre.

The answer is quite simple really…  I got a free Red Box movie rental and it was the only movie in the box that I hadn’t seen yet.

I had hoped to see a documentary about A Tribe Called Quest, but someone beat me to it.

N E Who… I talked to my friend nano for a little bit and he told me that he listened to the audio book (Cowboys VS Aliens) recently and that was going to spur him to watch it.   He admitted to not caring for the book but he was curious to see how the film adaptation went.

After a little bit of research, I don’t think the movie and book have a lot to do with each other but the Author of the book is suing the makers of the film for aping a few of the ideas.

That said…  Cowboys and Aliens is steaming hot plate of gah’bage.

007 (whose name I forget) wakes one day to discover that he has a copper bracelet (alien boom stick) on his left arm.  He doesn’t know his name and he doesn’t know where the fuck he is.

He’s suffering from a weird wound and I’m left to assume that he got abducted by an alien.   My assumption turned out to be right…

007 turns out to have a sketchy past, no english accent and he can whoop special forces like ass on anyone that choses to start shit with him.

He ends up in a shitty town, not knowing dick about himself or his bracelet…  people in the shitty town think his bracelet is kinda half-mo and this causes him to start shit with Harrison Ford’s son who’s a total dick.

Aliens finally surface and they cow-rope humans into their lair - and have them stare into lights.  Not exactly sure what for but I’m going to guess that their bodies are used to harness energy to power their vessel.

Which happens to look like the Guggenheim, but grand canyon red and it’s sorta easy to find if you happen to be on horse and go off to the fucking mountains.

The locals decide to all work together in hopes of finding their loved ones inside the alien guggenheim.  007 brings down said alien castle greyskull and all is well forever after.

I need to seriously watch some good movies soon or this movie project is going to end very fucking soon….

Classic Wrecks

I’ve always had an odd fascination for Model Cars…   I don’t really own to many model cars myself but I do have a small collection of scaled down Vespas.

Ran across something today that really amused me.  Someone decided to make scaled down junkers or “classic wrecks”

The Warrior's Way

There’s a couple of things that I didn’t take into account before I thought it would be a good idea to watch a movie every day in 2012…

1.) I didn’t take into account that I may actually run out of movies I’ve been wanting to watch after 2 weeks.

2.) That I would have to consider watching movies relating to genres that I particularly care for.

Said genre’s are(and in no particular order) Westerns, Neu Horror, Ninjas, Musicals and Jason Statham movies.

I’ll occasionally watch a movie that falls under one of the above genre’s but I have to be hard up for something to watch.

The Warrior’s Way got recommended to me by a co-worker who insisted that I check it out.  I recommend shows and movies for him to watch all the time so i felt like I owed him one.

I’m just about to enter the 3rd act of the Warrior’s Way and I must say that this movie has been pleasant surprise.  I mostly agreed to watch it because it stars Geoffrey Rush (Shine, Quills, Kings Speech) who plays a drunken Carnival rodie who swore to never lift a sniping rifle when his wife passed away.

The film centers around a mysterious guy with a Samurai  sword and a little baby he sorta stole or to protect it from a shitty death - doing so put him in some hot water with a guy who has a Samurai haircut.

The visual style of the movie is what makes it so interesting.  It sorta takes place in the old west, but its shot on a sound stage and there’s lots of slick CGI work with the backdrop so the film sorta feels like a play.

Recommend watching this if you’re really tired.
