When I first heard that Arthur would get a reboot, I never thought I would break down and actually rent it out of respect to Dudley Moore and how many times I spent afternoons next to my old roommate in Detroit exchanging favorite quotes from the original movie.
When I heard Russell Brand was involved - I decided to not write it off completely and rent it if it were ever made available for a $1 at the local Redbox kiosk.
That day was today… and much to my surprise the film wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. The film had a lot of heart and I actually liked his love interest more in the recent adaptation than Liza in the original.
Helen Mirren as “Hobson” was also an interesting touch and I actually liked that too…
If you’ve been on the fence about watching this - check it out. If you’re worried about seeing Russell Brand stumble through the movie doing a band drunken Dudley Moore… you needn’t worry. He sorta plays it ‘straight” for a good part of the movie - walking around more often than not with a bottle of whiskey than taking sips from it.
