George Nelson: Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher from McNay Art Museum on Vimeo.
Made it over to the McNay this afternoon to check out an exhibit on the work of George Nelson.
Along with Charles and Ray Eames, Nelson is considered a father to American Modernism.
The exhibit took me a little bit by surprised… mainly because the Austin Museum of Art currently has an exhibit on the design firm Herman Miller.
I haven’t made it out to Austin to see their exhibit yet, but it’s pretty cool to have 2 similar exhibits on Mid Century design so close to my front door.
The exhibit at the McNay was curated incredibly well. My only complaint about the exhibit was how inaccessible the George Nelson’s Kangaroo chair was.
They had it on a top shelf that disallowed one to walk around and admire, what I think is one of his finest creations.
If you’re in the Alamo City and have some time to check it out - I highly recommend it.
