Fox in the SnowYou know you've found someone really special, when you talk them into vacationing in Detroit in the dead of winter. Of all the photos I took on this trip, this one is my favorite. Not only did we get to take in the DIA, but Rhiannon is actually taking in her first ever snowfall.
Feather BowlingThere are only two places in the northern hemisphere where you can feather bowl and I made it a point to take Rhiannon there just a few hours after landing in Detroit. I lived in the motor city for 10 years and I never managed to find an open lane at the Cadieux Cafe. The stars aligned and I quickly learned that Rhiannon and Ted were put on earth to play this sport.
Found SoundFound a little time on my visit to check out record stores while visiting the Motor City. One of the best places I checked out was a little shop in Ferndale called the Found Sound. If you're around 9 mile and Woodward, make it a point to stop in.
Public HouseTucked away on 9-Mile, just a little walk away from Woodward... is a little bar called the Public House. They specialize in sprits and incredible eats. We didn't have anything to eat because we had a late brunch down the street but we couldn't believe how amazing the menu was. You can pick up a Swordfish sandwich for under 5 dollars. The bar also exclusively plays vinyl records to fill the room with tunes.
Woodward Avenue BrewOne of the highlights of our little visit was getting to stop in the WAB. I walked into this bar the day it opened on Woodward... The raspberry blonde ale they brew is one of my all time favorite beers.I didn't really script together a plan of activities when I flew up to Detroit and I somehow managed to take in more sites that I could have ever imagined.
The Spirit of DetroitWhen I moved to San Antonio, I asked a local to take me to the Spirit. They didn't know if the city had one... I still don't know if the City of San Antonio has one to this day.I just did a Google search for it and I got some results for a bar and a Marching Band.i guess if we had one it would be the Alamo... the Motor City however has this. Dedicated to the city in 1958, the bronze statue has a family in it's right hand and gold ball with beams of light that is said to represent God.
The final moments of Single TedMy trip back to Detroit was long over due... nearly 5 years had passed since my last visit. The moment I heard Ted was going to get Married, I new it would only be a matter of months before I made it back to the Motor City.In the back of my mind... I only wished Ted wouldn't make me stand in the wedding... (he did. I had to get a suit) and I hoped he would do it in the Summer.Ted set at date in Late January on Super Bowl Weekend.I've had the privilege of being best man a few times and there's something really nice about the final moments before Showtime. I took this photo of Ted, without him knowing it and it may be one of the last photographs of him being single.
Little Miss DetroitI can't tell you how much I love getting keepsakes for my niece when I travel for work or fun.
